The EC's Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme

Last week, the EC published a proposal for corporate social responsibility. The Commission is establishing the European Alliance for CSR. Membership and compliance would be voluntary. The proposal addresses a number of subjects relating to how companies integrate social and environmental concerns into their business models. These include, among other items:

• Best practices;
• Multi-stakeholder initiatives;
• Cooperation with Member States;
• Consumer information and transparency;
• Research; and
• Education.
